DESCRIPTION:
This SoftPaq contains utilities that can be used to restore or update the 
system BIOS on HP business desktop d325 models (786A5 BIOS).

Several methods for changing the BIOS version on your computer may be chosen.  
Included are the various ways to perform the update. Each folder provided has 
self-contained files to perform the BIOS update and any unwanted folders may be 
deleted.

Tools and appropriate BIOS images are contained in each of the directories as 
follows:

  DOS Flash - DOS utility that can be used locally or with a Preboot eXecution 

  Environment (PXE) management application to update or restore the system 
BIOS. 

  HPQFlash - Windows-based utility to locally update or restore the system BIOS 
on 
  individual PCs through the Windows environment.

  ROMPaq CD - Creates a bootable CD that can be used to locally restore or 
update
  the system BIOS.  No backup will be made of the current system BIOS.

  ROMPaq Diskette - Creates a bootable 1.44 diskette that can be used to 
locally 
  restore or update the system BIOS.  A backup of the current system BIOS image 
is 
  copied onto the ROMPaq diskette during the update process.  If desired, this 

  backup BIOS image on the ROMPaq diskette can be used to restore the system 
BIOS 
  to its original version.

This Softpaq can also be used with the following methods of updating the system 
BIOS:

  SSM - Use this SoftPaq with System Software Manager (SSM) to update the 
system
  BIOS on target PCs on a network.  Place this SoftPaq in your SSM Filestore 
folder 
  then update the database. SSM is a free utility provided by Hewlett-Packard

  HP Client Manager Software - Use this SoftPaq with HP Client Manager Software 

  (HPCMS) and Altiris Notification Server to remotely targed, distribute, 
distribute,
  and update the system BIOS on network PCs.  Place this SoftPaq in your HPCMS 

  Filestore folder then update the database.  HPCMS is a free management 
application
  provided by Altiris and Hewlett-Packard Company.  For more information, see

The BIOS Family and BIOS date can be determined by pressing F10 on the target 
computer during system power on to run the Setup Utility, and then selecting 
File/System Information.  This information can be saved into a text file on a 
diskette or on a USB flash media device by selecting File/Save to Diskette.  In 
order for a USB flash media device to be recognized by the system, the device 
must be attached before the computer is turned on.

ENHANCEMENTS: 
Updates Bootblock ROM strapping table user pointer, memory code, and 
processor speed, front side bus (fsb), and reporting routines to enable 400MHz 
FSB.

   NOTE: This BIOS version provides initial support for 400MHz FSB processors.  
This requires a bootblock update for the pointer to the user ROM strapping 
table. If the bootblock update is not performed, the processor will be operated 
at 333MHz FSB.

User table pointer for 333MHz/400MHz FSB processor moves to flashable area 
of the physical ROM. 

Verifies bootblock version before enabling 400MHz FSB support. 

Adds test to make sure that system board supports 400MHz FSB before 
allowing processors to execute at that speed.   
 

FIXES: 
 Corrects issue when embedded 3COM NIC is disabled in F10 security menu 
and resume from Standby (S3) in the OS. 

Corrects the problem when embedded NIC is hidden in F10 security menu 
causing the unit not to be able to boot or access the floppy drive.

Corrects algorithm to read SPD information from DIMMs. 

Corrects processor name information for Athlon 2600+ processor with 333MHz 
FSB. 

Corrects handling of Boot Connection Vectors from PCI option ROMs when more 
than six vectors are presented.

USB corrections for PS2 and USB keyboard cobinations and legacy DOS 
support.

HOW TO USE:

 Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive.

Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
