below that have the ADI AC97 SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio Controller. 

For support of Intel ICH1 chipsets, download SoftPaq SP21180.
For support of Windows 98SE/2000/ME/XP on Intel ICH2 or ICH4 chipsets, 
download SoftPaq SP23296.
For support of Windows 98SE/2000/ME/XP NVIDIA chipsets, download SoftPaq 
SP23295.
For support of Via686 chipsets, download SoftPaq SP19397.
For OS2 support, download SoftPaq SP21248.

ENHANCEMENTS: 
AddS support for new products.
Adds the ability to set "AsyncMode" flag to NT. This is required for proper 
No- Crystal Operation.

FIXES: 
Corrects problem where Via8233 chipsets would fail CODEC reads in 
extreme rare case. This problem was independent of chipset and CODEC.
Corrects problem where Windows NT Media Player would lose sync between the 
audio and video while playing any .AVI file. This problem was independent of 
the chipset and CODEC.
Corrects problem where no sound was recorded when WAVE OUT MIX balance 
slider was moved all the way to the right and then all the way to the left. 
This problem affected all AD198x series CODECs on NT 4.0 systems, and was 
independent of chipset.
Corrects problem where Windows Media Player process could not be terminated 
through Task Manager.

PREREQUISITES: 
DirectX 6 or higher should be installed prior to Softpaq installation.
If you use Compaq System Software Manager (SSM), you must be using version 
1.50 or later. For more information on Compaq SSM and to obtain the latest 
version of Compaq SSM please use the following URL:

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: 
HOW TO USE:
 
Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive. The file 
downloaded is a self-extracting executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq 
Number listed on at the top of this document.

Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

After the files have been unpacked, you may delete the self-extracting file 
downloaded in step 1.

To install: Execute the setup.exe file unpacked in step 2; The default 
location is c:\swsetup\SP23297, unless otherwise modified during step 2.

After the installation is completed, you may delete the directory created 
in step 2 if you wish.
