OPTi 82c92x Windows NT Audio Driver LATEST INFORMATION (Version 1.01) 05/08/96 This is the OPTi 82c928, 82c929 and 82c924, 82c925 audio driver release for Windows NT version 3.51. Throughout this readme file, 82c92x refers to 82c928, 82c929, 82c924 and 82c925. This Windows NT driver provides the following support for OPTi 82c92x- based sound card: Wave playback/capture Midi playback Mic recording Volume control Driver installation/configuration IDE CD-ROM support 0. What is new in this release This release contains the following additional features and supports to the previous release v1.00, - Provide support for OPTi 82c925 audio sound chip. - Support Line input source for 925 with AD1845 and CS4231 Codec only. - SNDOPTI.DLL is renamed to SND92x.DLL - SNDOPTI.SYS is renamed to SND92x.SYS - SNDINIT.SYS is renamed to SND2INIT.SYS 1. SOFTWARE PACKAGE CONTENTS The OPTi 82c92x Windows NT Audio Driver installation package contains the following files: - OEMSETUP.INF - Windows NT driver installation text file - SND92X.DLL - Windows NT user mode driver for OPTi 82c92x. - SND92X.SYS - Windows NT kernel mode driver for OPTi 82c92x. - SND2INIT.SYS - Windows NT kernel mode driver for setting OPTi 82c92x on-board IDE CD-ROM interface. - MIDIMAP.CFG - Midi Mapper for OPTi92x. - README.NT - This help file. 2. INSTALLATION PROCESS The installation process assumes that Windows NT v3.51 has been installed. Refer to documents for Windows NT installation. Step 1: Insert OPTi 82c92x sound card in the system. Refer to your menu for proper sound card hardware installation. Step 2: Logged on Windows NT in Administrator mode. Windows NT audio driver can't be installed or modified unless Windows NT is started in Adminstrator mode. Step 3: Choose the Drivers icon in the Control Panel Window. Remove all of the following previously installed audio drivers: Windows Sound System OPTi 82c928, 82c929, 82c924 If none of the drivers exist, continue to Step 4, otherwise restart system. Step 4: Start Windows NT in Administrator mode. Choose the Drivers icon in the Control Panel Window. Choose the Add button in the Drivers dialog box. Select "Unlisted or Updated Driver" and choose the OK button. Insert the OPTi 82c92x Windows NT installation diskette in floppy drive and choose the OK button. You may see an Driver Exists pop up windows if you are installing over an existing snd92x driver. Choose the New button to install a new driver. Step 5: A setup dialog box will appear. Select the I/O address, Interrupt, and DMA for OPTi 82c92x. Choose the CD-ROM Interface Settings for selecting whether to enable or disable the on-board IDE CD-ROM interface. Choose the OK button when you finish selecting the settings. Step 6: Choose the Restart Now button to have the new driver and any changed driver settings to take effect when Windows NT restart. 3. CHANGING DRIVER SETTINGS AFTER INSTALLATION Driver settings can be changed after installation. Step 1: Logged on Windows NT in Administrator mode. Step 2: Choose the Drivers icon in the Control Panel Window. Select OPTi 82c928, 82c929, 82c924, 82c925 in Installed Drivers Dialog box. Choose Setup button. Follows Step 5 and 6 of INSTALLATION PROCESS above. 4. INSTALLATION DETAILS The Windows NT driver installation does the following: - Copy files to your hard disk. snd92x.sys, snd92x.dll, snd2init.sys, midimap.cfg and README.NT are copied to the NT system directories. - Create/Update configuration information in the registry The following two Keys are created in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services path: snd92x snd2init - Reboot system. 5. CD-ROM INSTALLATION NOTES The CD-ROM Interface Settings in driver setup provides the choice of enable or disable the 82c92x on board IDE CD-ROM interface (Default to disabled). It DOESN'T install the NT IDE CD-ROM driver. It's your responsibility to install the NT IDE-CD ROM driver. To install an IDE CD-ROM drive that is connected to 82c92x: - Make sure there is no secondary IDE port that is enabled on your system motherboard or another add-on card. - Choose "Enable IDE CD-ROM Interface" check box. This instructs the kernel mode driver snd2init.sys to enable the 82c92x on board secondary IDE port 170h and IRQ15 upon NT boot time. - To install the Windows NT IDE CD-ROM driver (ATAPI.SYS), please refer to the Windows NT System Guide. 6. OTHER NOTES - When doing driver reconfiguration, be sure to close all the audio applications such as Volume Control before staring the Drivers ICON in CONTROL Panel. - OPTi 82c925 audio card line input source control is supported when use with external CODEC AD1845 or CS4231. Line input source control is not supported with other CODECs such as AD4248, AD1848, AD1846.
