=============================================================================== Stealth 3D 2000 TSR BIOS README.TXT =============================================================================== Release Notes ------------- The tsr's included with this file are intended to address unsupported display modes when running the Destruction Derby application on the Diamond Stealth 3D 2000 series video card. Included with the S3DDDTSR.EXE self extracting file are tsr's supporting both v1.xx and v2.xx series Stealth 3D 2000 BIOSes. For v1.xx series BIOSes the following tsr's are available: "V1_43.EXE" to call a 43.5Hz refresh rate "V1_60.EXE" to call a 60Hz refresh rate For v2.xx series BIOSes the following tsr's are available: "V2_43.EXE" to call a 43.5Hz refresh rate "V2_60.EXE" to call a 60Hz refresh rate Symptoms -------- When running the Destruction Derby applications bundled with the Stealth 3D 2000 card the screen goes blank or scrambled. Cause ----- The application is calling the 512x384 resolution at a 70Hz refresh rate. Some older monitors or lower-end models cannot support this rate and will go "out-of-sync" when attempting to run the application. Solution/Usage -------------- A) Initial preparation: 1) Download the "S3DDDTSR.EXE" file to a directory on your hard drive. You may wish to create a new directory specifically for these files. 2) This is a self-extracting executable file. To expand the tsr files, execute the "S3DDDTSR.EXE" file. The files mentioned at the beginning of this document will be expanded. B) Use a lower refresh rate that is supported by the monitor with the following steps: 1) Determine which series tsr to use. If the video BIOS of your Stealth 3D 2000 is v1.xx, you will use one of the "V1_??.EXE" files. If the video BIOS is v2.xx, you will use one of the "V2_??.EXE" files. If you are unsure what your video BIOS revision is, view the blue banner that appears at system start up, it will contain the video BIOS version. Or run the MSD utility and view the "Video BIOS Version" listed in the "Video" section. If MSD is not loaded on your system, it can be found in the "\other" directory of the Win95 CD-ROM. 2) Next determine which file to use according to the refresh rate. To do this you will actually be checking your monitor's manual for the refresh rate that it supports at the 1024x768 resolution. This will be the refresh rate that needs to be set. See the chart at the beginning of this document to pick the correct tsr. 3) If you do not have a "WINSTART.BAT" file in your \windows directory, create one. You can use a text editor such as "WordPad", "NotePad", etc. 4) To this file add a call to the appropriate tsr file determined previously. For example if you have a monitor that supports 1024x768 in an interlaced mode, it may be listed as 43.5Hz or 87Hz, you would add the following line: "C:\STLTH3D\V2_43.EXE" Assuming you have Stealth 3D 2000 with a v2.xx series BIOS. And you expanded the tsr files in a directory called "STLTH3D" on your C: drive. 5) Save the change to the "WINSTART.BAT" file and exit the text editor. Then restart your system. 6) Run Destruction Derby.
