1 System preparation
======================

	Follow the hardware installation instructions provided with
        your system before beginning the software installation.

	Refer to the online user's manual or printed documentation
        (if applicable) for a detailed description.

	Prior to driver installation, make sure the target operating system
	( Windows NT 3.51, NT 4.0, or Windows95 ) is correctly installed
	and running.

	If the HEIDI driver for AutoDesk 3DStudio MAX is to be installed,
	make sure that MAX is installed and running before installing the HEIDI
	driver.

2. Installation
===============

2.1 Installing the Windows NT 4.0 Driver
========================================

	Run the EXE (self-extracting) file from WEB or BBS and follow the instructions. 
	Select the 'Custom' option and choose desired options from the list.
	

2.2 Choosing a Monitor
======================

	In order to make the best use of your Diamond FIRE GL 4000 board, 
	the capabilities of graphics monitor you choose should match those
	of this board.

	The monitor refresh rate can be directly selected under Windows NT
	4.0 under display settings.
	
	To select refresh rates under Windows 95, click on
	the 'Display' icon in the 'Control Panel'. Select the 'Settings'
	property page, and then 'Change Display Type...' The current
	Adapter Type and Monitor Type will be displayed. Choose 'Change...'
	next to Monitor Type, and select the monitor type that best
	matches the description of your monitor.
	
	For more information, please refer to your manual.
 
		 *** IMPORTANT ***

	Only use settings that your monitor supports. If you specify 
	settings that exceed the ratings specified for your monitor, 
	you may permanently damage the monitor!
	If you change the monitor, first check the ratings of the new 
	monitor and, if necessary, reconfigure your settings accordingly!


3. Known Restrictions
======================
	The Diamond Fire GL 4000 card is designed to provide highest
	quality 3D support at 1280x1024 true color, double buffered. 
	If required, other resolutions may be selected. Only true color
	modes are available.

	The supplied HEIDI drivers are intended for 3DStudio MAX v.1.2.

	The onboard legacy VGA adapter must be enabled during
	the installation procedure.
  
	Drivers for the onboard Cirrus logic controller are delivered
	along with the Windows 95 and Windows NT operating system.
	If drivers for the onboard VGA controller are selected, you will
	not be able to use the OpenGL and HEIDI hardware capabilities of
	the card, and will not have acess to the high resolution 
	true color modes.

	Technical support for the installation and configuration of 
	Diamond graphic boards and multimedia products, as well as 
	software updates,
	or optional software packages, are available:

	- from the Diamond Mailbox
	- in the internet 
	- via the Diamond ExpertLine
