ORCHID TECHNOLOGY KELVIN 64 OS/2 2.1 DRIVERS readme.1st ---------------------------------------------------------------- This file contains preliminary instructions for installing the Kelvin 64 OS/2 2.1 drivers you have just downloaded. You have already completed the first step, by unpacking the KOS221.EXE file and reading this. These instructions assume you have downloaded the drivers from the Orchid BBS, or from CompuServe. If you got the files another way, some instructions may be unnecessary. When you unpack KOS221.EXE you should have the following files: BVHSVGA DL_ 18373 07-06-93 4:47a CL480B DSP 211 08-20-93 9:09a CL480BC DSP 3628 08-19-93 2:54p CL600B DSP 221 08-20-93 9:09a CL600BC DSP 3692 08-19-93 2:54p CL768B DSP 214 08-20-93 9:09a CL768BC DSP 3691 08-19-93 2:55p CLINST21 CMD 2679 10-19-93 4:28a KELVIN TXT 8320 03-10-94 DISK ID 69 01-17-94 2:31a DISPLAY DL_ 123482 06-17-93 4:46a DSPRES DL_ 107793 04-22-93 7:18p IBMVGA32 DL_ 33109 07-06-93 5:16a PSCLBLT DSC 994 12-06-93 4:06p README 1ST 4480 03-10-94 SCREEN01 SY_ 4713 07-06-93 4:41a SCREEN02 SY_ 4968 07-06-93 4:41a SV48016 DL@ 515 06-17-93 4:46a SV480256 DL@ 79464 01-28-94 3:49p SV60016 DL@ 515 06-17-93 4:46a SV600256 DL@ 79537 01-28-94 3:50p SV76816 DL@ 512 06-17-93 4:46a SV768256 DL@ 80281 01-28-94 3:50p SVGA EXE 69221 10-18-93 2:43p VGA 110511 05-11-93 9:50p VSVGA SY_ 55170 09-24-93 2:33p WINVGA 142971 05-11-93 9:50p WINXGA 159160 05-11-93 9:50p WSPDBF DR_ 64873 04-30-93 2:40p WSPDSBF DR_ 65857 04-30-93 2:42p WSPDSF DR_ 64463 04-30-93 2:40p WSPDSSF DR_ 65404 04-30-93 2:42p CHOOSING AN INSTALLATION METHOD ------------------------------- There are 2 methods for installing the drivers. Method 1 is to create a special directory on your hard drive to install the drivers from. Method 2 is to make a floppy installation disk. There is no singular advantage to either one. You may take up extra space on your hard drive by using the hard drive installation, but then you won't have to go looking for the floppy disk if you decide to change resolutions later. PREPARING FOR METHOD 1, HARD DRIVE INSTALLATION ----------------------------------------------- 1. Open a DOS or OS/2 command prompt session, windowed or full screen. 2. Move to the root directory of your hard drive (if you are not already there). (example) CD \ 3. Use the "make directory" command (MD) to create a new directory on your hard drive called DISP_1 (example) MD DISP_1 4. Use the "xcopy" command to transfer all of the Kelvin OS/2 driver files to the new directory. All of the files that you unpacked from the BBS file KOS221.EXE (listed above) should be copied over in order for the install procedure to work correctly. 5. Now you're ready to proceed to the file KELVIN.TXT for specific instructions for floppy disk driver installation. Please be sure to read the "IMPORTANT NOTES" section at the top of KELVIN.TXT. PREPARING FOR METHOD 2, FLOPPY DRIVE INSTALLATION ------------------------------------------------- 1. Open a DOS or OS/2 command prompt session, windowed or full screen. 2. Insert a blank 1.44K floppy in one of your floppy disk drives. 3. Using the "label" command set the floppy's volume label to DISP 1 (example) LABEL A: DISP 1 (substitute the appropriate drive letter for your floppy drive.) 4. Use the "xcopy" command to transfer all of the Kelvin OS/2 driver files to the new floppy disk. All of the files that you unpacked from the BBS file KOS221.EXE (listed above) should be copied over in order for the install procedure to work correctly. Please see your OS/2 manual if you need help with the xcopy command. 5. Now you're ready to proceed to the file KELVIN.TXT for specific instructions for hard disk driver installation. Please be sure to read the "IMPORTANT NOTES" section at the top of KELVIN.TXT.
