Orchid Technology Fahrenheit Plus Series Driver Release v7.2 --------------------------------------- The file you have downloaded, FPLUS.EXE, contains the complete files from the Fahrenheit Plus Series Install/Driver disk v7.2 for the Fahrenheit 1280 Plus, Fahrenheit Plus/VLB, Fahrenheit VA, and Fahrenheit VA/VLB. This readme file contains instructions for making a Fahrenheit driver disk so you can install the drivers. You have already completed the first step, by unpacking the FPLUS.EXE file and reading this. Important Notes and Restrictions -------------------------------- These drivers are only for use with Fahrenheit boards using the S3 801 or 805 chipset (board names listed above), with the v3.0 BIOS. If you have a BIOS version older than 3.0, this driver will not work properly for you. For more information on updating your BIOS, see the file FUPGRD.TXT on the Orchid BBS, or in the Orchid library on CompuServe. If you have an older original model Fahrenheit 1280 board (not Plus, not VA, not VLB) based on the S3 911 or 924 chip, or a newer Fahrenheit 64 Series board based on the S3 864 or 964, this driver will not work properly for you. When you unpack FPLUS.EXE you should have the following files: DISK ID 26 12-09-94 7:20a FAHDRVVA 001 946047 12-09-94 7:20a INSTALL DAT 43397 12-09-94 7:20a INSTALL HLP 83179 12-09-94 7:20a FINSTALL EXE 109329 08-10-92 10:00a 123D600 DRV 9983 08-10-92 10:00a 123D768 DRV 9983 08-10-92 10:00a 123S600 DRV 9983 08-10-92 10:00a 123S768 DRV 9983 08-10-92 10:00a 123TEXT DRV 4519 08-10-92 10:00a 123TXT25 DRV 4519 08-10-92 10:00a 123TXT43 DRV 4519 08-10-92 10:00a README 1ST 4591 08-03-95 Using your Fahrenheit Drivers ----------------------------- 1. Copy all files (listed above) to a blank high density 3.5" floppy disk. 2. Log onto your floppy drive and run the FINSTALL.EXE program to install the driver files to your hard drive. You should run FINSTALL.EXE from DOS, not from Windows. The FINSTALL.EXE program is menu driven, and fairly self explanatory. The FINSTALL menu helps you install drivers for a variety of different applications. If you have questions during any part of the installation process, press the F1 key for context sensitive help, or see your Fahrenheit manual for more information. Troubleshooting --------------- The most common question the Orchid Technical Support department gets regarding installation of Windows drivers is from people who have installed the drivers using FINSTALL, yet when they go into the Windows Control Panel the Fahrenheit driver icon doesn't show up. This problem is almost exclusively caused by memory managers loaded in your CONFIG.SYS file. If you're using QEMM or EMM386 (or a similar type of memory manager), you need to exclude the Fahrenheit's RAM and ROM memory area so your memory manager doesn't try to use that area. The syntax for EMM386 and QEMM is to add the statement X=A000-C7FF to the EMM or QEMM setup line in your CONFIG.SYS file. If you are using QEMM's "Stealth" feature (ST:M or ST:F), you also need to add the statement XST=C000 to your line in CONFIG.SYS. Then reboot and look for the icon in Windows. If you use QEMM, it may be necessary to re- run the Optimize program after adding the Fahrenheit exclusions.
