Orchid Technology OS/2 WARP v3 Celsius VGA Installation November 22. 1994 Note: This installation was done from both diskettes and CD-ROM on a very clean system (Orchid EFAR 486/33 VLB motherboard, 8 meg RAM, 340 meg Quantum IDE HD, CMOS set to Auto Configuration with BIOS Defaults, DOS and WIN3.1). This installation assumes that the Celsius is installed on the system and is working fine in DOS and Windows and that OS/2 WARP v3 is not installed in the system and will be installed with DUALBOOT feature and not BOOTMANAGER type system. If there are any questions about which method of installation to use consult the WARP manual. Note: It is required that any important and priceless files be backed up with some method before beginning this installation, Orchid will not be responsible for use of these drivers with this version of OS/2. 1. Download VGAFIX.EXE from the Orchid BBS (510 683-0327) and extract it's files to a blank floppy. Example: Type VGAFIX A: to extract files to the A: drive 2. Ensure that your system can be booted from a DOS boot floppy into DOS and you have the ability to access the C: drive after that boot. Have that floppy handy as it will be needed later. Some CMOS BIOS' may need to be checked to verify that the boot sequence is A: - C: 3. Begin installing OS/2 WARP v3 as per instructions included with WARP. 4. At the completion of the 1st phase (BIG BLUE SCREEN) you will be prompted to: "Remove the Diskette from Drive A:. Then press Enter to Continue with the Installation" Do this and when the system starts to reboot ie starts a memory count for boot up -- turn the system off. 5. Insert the DOS BOOT Diskette in the A: drive and restart the system. 6. After the system is up in DOS -- Type C: 7. Type CD \OS2\DLL 8. Insert the VGAFIX extracted Diskette into A Drive or B Drive. 9. At the C:\OS2\DLL> prompt type REN IBMVGA32.DLL IBMVGA32.STD. 10. At the C:\OS2\DLL> prompt type REN IBMDEV32.DLL IBMDEV32.STD. 11. Copy UNPACK.EXE from the Celsius diskette into the C:\OS2\DLL directory. 12. At the C:\OS2\DLL> prompt type UNPACK A:CELSIUS (or B:CELSIUS). 13. At the C:\OS2\DLL> prompt type COPY IBMVGA32.DLL IBMVGA32.CEL. 14. At the C:\OS2\DLL> prompt type COPY IBMDEV32.DLL IBMDEV32.CEL. 15. Remove any floppy from A: drive and reboot the system and continue the OS/2 WARP v3 Installation. Follow all instructions. 16. At the point of installation when you are presented with the System Configuration screen, select Primary Display. 17. The next screen allows you to choose your display type, select Video Graphics Array (VGA) and continue with the installation. 18. After the Installation, when the system starts to reboot ie starts a memory count for boot up -- turn the system off. 19. Insert the DOS BOOT Diskette in the A: drive and restart the system. 20. After the system is up in DOS -- Type C: 21. Type CD \OS2\DLL 22. At the C:\OS2\DLL> prompt type COPY IBMVGA32.CEL IBMVGA32.DLL. 23. At the C:\OS2\DLL> prompt type COPY IBMDEV32.CEL IBMDEV32.DLL. 24. Remove any floppy from A: drive and reboot the system. Note: The files, IBMDEV32.DLL and IBMVGA32.DLL help WARP determine how to display VGA. After the above Celsius installation you will have the following files installed in the \OS2\DLL subdirectory: IBMDEV32.DLL \_ The active files IBMVGA32.DLL / IBMDEV32.STD \_ These are the original renamed OS/2 IBMVGA32.STD / supplied files for determining standard VGA, needed to run any Video Card except Celsius. IBMDEV32.CEL \_ These are the unpacked Celsius files, when IBMVGA32.CEL / using the Celsius these files replace the orignial *.DLL files. If for some reason you must replace the Celsius video card with a different VGA card, the *.STD files must be copied to *.DLL files for OS/2 to recognize that standard VGA card in VGA mode.
