Orchid Technology SoundWave 32 and GameWave32 Plus Installation Instructions for MS Windows 95 August 1995 ------------------------------------------- This readme file will help you install the original SoundWave 32 and the GameWave 32Plus into Microsoft Windows 95. If you have a SoundWave 32+SCSI or SoundWave 32Pro card, or the original GameWave 32 these instructions do not apply to you. You must have the latest drivers from Orchid Technology for the sound cards, otherwise you may experience problems in Windows 95. As of August 1995, the current driver versions for the SoundWave 32 are 1.4 for the stock ProSonus wavetable ROM set, and 2.2 for the after market upgrade InVision wavetable ROM set. (For more information about the InVision ROM upgrade, download the file INVISN.TXT.) As of August 1995 the current driver version for the GameWave 32Plus is 3.0. There are two scenarios for the SoundWave 32 and GameWave 32Plus installation: 1. SoundWave 32 or GameWave 32Plus was installed into Windows 3.1x, then the operating system was upgraded to Windows 95. Windows 95 will automatically update the appropriate files and no additional configuration should be done (with respect to the sound card). 2. The SoundWave 32 or GameWave 32Plus is being installed into a machine where Windows 95 is already installed. The following instructions will only cover case number 2, where Windows 95 has already been installed on a system. Currently, it is recommended that you use the Multimedia utilities that ship with Windows 95 since the Orchid Technology utilities are 16-bit and may run slowly under Windows 95. Installation Instructions ------------------------- 1. Boot machine, as soon as "Starting Windows 95" is displayed press F8. This will bring up a menu to allow users choose a particular type of bootup. Select "Command prompt only". 2. The installation for the SoundWave 32 is done from the Windows 95 DOS command prompt. The necessary commands are shown below. The exact command syntax is shown in the left column, with associated comments shown in the right column. The comments are shown after a semicolon (;).
