Remus software combines multiple hard drives into a disk array, providing


high speed for disk-intensive applications such as desktop publishing and


digital video. Remus software also offers full RAID data protection,


keeping your critical data safe from drive failures.





Compatibility:





Each Remus partition is just that--one more partition--to your Macintosh


computer. This means that Remus software is fully compatible with your


applications, even with disk-manipulation software like defragmenters and


backup software.





Performance:





Applications such as image processing and desktop publishing software move


megabytes of data to and from disk. Remus software speeds those data


transfers by striping data across multiple hard drives, even meeting the


demanding performance requirements of digital video.





Data Integrity:





Remus software can protect your critical data by storing it on multiple


drives. Mirroring provides an inexpensive alternative for protecting


smaller amounts of data; when your data grows beyond a single drive, RAID


levels 4 and 5 provide protection for more data at a lower hardware cost


than mirroring. When a drive fails, Remus software provides seamless access


to your data, reporting the failure and allowing the drive to be replaced.


Data is reconstructed in the background, so it is available while the new


drive is being brought on-line.





Low Cost:





Remus software works with standard SCSI drives and controllers, allowing


existing hardware to be re-used. Older drives can be combined into an array


for added storage capacity, improved performance, or fault tolerance.


Drives of different types and sizes can be used together in an array.





Flexibility:





Remus software has a partition type for every storage need. Each partition


has its own type, so you can use multiple levels on the same set of drives.


Choose from striping, mirroring, RAID 4, RAID 5, volume spanning or even


normal Macintosh partitions, for great configuration flexibility.





Remus software works with any SCSI hard drives, even allowing you to mix


different types and sizes. You won't be locked into buying hardware from


one vendor. You can even turn your existing SCSI drives into a disk array,


for improved performance or data integrity.





Remus software supports the built-in Macintosh SCSI port, including dual


SCSI ports on Power Macintosh computers. Many SCSI accelerators are also


supported, so you can pick the one that's best for you. When you change


machines or accelerators, your data can go with you.
