11/7/95 News Release Adaptec Names New Chief Operating Officer Milpitas, Calif, - November 7, 1995 - Adaptec Inc.(NASDAQ:ADPT), has appointed Bob Stephens, founder and chief executive officer of Power I/O Corporation, to the position of chief operating officer today. Stephens, 50, fills a post that was vacated when Grant Saviers was made CEO of Adaptec in July of this year. (In a separate release issued today, Adaptec announced the acquisition of Power I/O Corporation). Saviers characterized Stephens' career in high technology as "One of real distinction. Bob's experience in high-performance I/O subsystems, storage peripherals, and networking is a perfect fit for our business. And perhaps most important to us at Adaptec is Bob's demonstrated ability to manage high growth." Prior to founding Power I/O, Stephens was president and CEO of Emulex Corporation. He presided over many successes at Emulex, including the rapid growth of the company's SCSI division. Before Emulex, he was senior vice-president and general manager of the Microcomputer Products Group at Western Digital Corporation. During his tenure at Western Digital, the communications unit alone grew from start-up to approximately $100 million in two years. Stephens was also founder and CEO of California Network Systems, one of the first local area networking companies, and spent 15 years in executive-level positions at IBM's General Products Division.
