Q: What RAID levels do the AHA-3985 support ?

A: The AHA-3985 support RAID levels 0 , 0/1 & 5



Q: Why does my computer not recognize that I have an AHA-3985 installed ?

A: Check your Computer/motherboard documentation to verify that it supports PCI-PCI bridging.

Q: Which version of the AHA-3985 Array software should I use ?

A: If you have an AHA-3985 with BIOS version 1.0, then the version of the array software & 

utilities can be v1.5x or 1.01.

If you have an AHA-3985 with BIOS version 1.5 , only the 1.5x version of the array software

& utilities can be used.



Q: During the Installation of Netware 4.1 , my Array is not recognized by Netware. It is recognized as multiple drives , Why ?

A: Verify that the AHA-3980.dsk and Ardrvr.nlm loads successfully during the installation of Netware.



Q: What do I need to setup a boot array ?

A: To boot from an array you must have the 1.5 version of the 3985 BIOS and use the 1.51 version of the array software & utilities.

 

Q: I have a RAID 5 array configured with no spare and a "downed member".  How do I replace the hard disk ?

A: If your array is in an external RAID enclosure and supports "hot-swapping" , replace the drive at the same ID and run the aruadmin utility to select reconstruct functions - run a RAID 5 reconstruct.



If your array is internal or is an external enclosure which does not support "hot-swapping" then power down the system , remove defective drive , install new drive at a different ID (and unique). Boot the system and restart Netware.  Load the aruadmin utility , select change array configuration and  select "add  spare drive" . Perform a reconstruct on the array.



Q: Is my aha-3985/w compatible with Pentium Pro based systems?

A: The aha-3985/w is not compatible with Pentium Pro base systems

 

Q: When I attempt to create an array using the arconfig utility  my computer "hangs" or when I attempt to create a partition using fdisk after I have successfully created an array , fdisk recognizes multiple drives. What should I do ?

A: Access the SCSI disk utilities in SCSISelect of the aha-3985/w to perform a low-level format on the hard drives.



Q: When I perform a "verify" or a "reconstruct" from the Aruadmin utilities it "hangs" or reports an error. What is the problem ?

A: Access the SCSI disk utilities from SCSISelect to perform a low-level surface verify  on your hard drives. 



Q: Are there any aha-3985/3985w updated array drivers for Novell 4.11 ?

A: The 3985\3985w is currently not certified for Netware 4.11 and is currently not supported

in this operating environment.
