Patch Name: PHSS_23350 Patch Description: s700_800 11.04 (VVOS) CDE login failure on graphics console Creation Date: 01/02/08 Post Date: 01/03/01 Hardware Platforms - OS Releases: s700: 11.04 s800: 11.04 Products: N/A Filesets: CDE.CDE-RUN,fr=B.11.04,fa=HP-UX_B.11.04_32/64,v=HP Automatic Reboot?: No Status: General Release Critical: No Category Tags: defect_repair general_release Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHSS_23350 Symptoms: PHSS_23350: When patch PHSS_20468 is part of the VVOS install media, nongraphics systems get CDE startup failures on the console. PHSS_20468: Users are unable to log into a graphics console CDE login environment if a system has multiple network cards configured. This problem was introduced by patch PHSS_18392. Defect Description: PHSS_23350: The /usr/dt/config/Xservers file was getting copied to /etc/dt/config/Xservers by the product start script (/usr/dt/config/dtrc.d/20_graph_conf) and did not properly comment out the LOCAL display line for nongraphics systems. Resolution: Ship the standard /usr/dt/config/Xservers file (as originally shipped by CDE) containing the '*' for LOCAL display configuration. The 20_graph_conf script properly handles this configuration. Note that CDE was patched to fix the multihomed host problem by PHSS_21112. PHSS_20468: The Xauthentication mechanism within CDE and X is not maintaining the proper hostname/display identity for a multihomed host, which causes Xauthentication to fail when attempting to display to the X server. Resolution: Change the system default display configuration in /usr/dt/config/Xservers from '*' to 'unix:0'. The '*' translated to the hostname:0 display value, which is incorrectly interpreted by CDE. 'unix:0' uses unix domain sockets for local display, which does not exhibit the problem.
