Patch Name: PHKL_30792 Patch Description: s700_800 11.23 fcntl patch 32-bit appln with 64-bit i/f Creation Date: 04/05/17 Post Date: 04/06/01 Hardware Platforms - OS Releases: s700: 11.23 s800: 11.23 Products: N/A Filesets: OS-Core.CORE2-KRN,fr=B.11.23,fa=HP-UX_B.11.23_IA,v=HP Automatic Reboot?: Yes Status: General Release Critical: No (superseded patches were critical) PHKL_30146: PANIC Category Tags: defect_repair general_release critical panic Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHKL_30792 Symptoms: PHKL_30792: ( SR:8606353788 CR:JAGaf14582 ) When a 32 bit application with appropriate 64-bit extension uses 64-bit fcntl(2) interfaces, it will fail with EOVERFLOW as the error number. This failure will be seen when such an application tries to access or lock more than MAX_LOCK32_SIZE (2 GB) in a file using fcntl(2). PHKL_30146: ( SR:8606337213 CR:JAGae98239 ) System running HP-UX 11.23 panics in fcntl() with the stack trace: panic+0x310 post_hndlr+0xc20 vm_hndlr+0x220 bubbleup+0x740 fcntl+0x8c1 syscall+0x4f0 Defect Description: PHKL_30792: ( SR:8606353788 CR:JAGaf14582 ) A check for 32-bit system call was performed in a common piece of code for both 32-bit and 64-bit fcntl(2) interfaces. This limits the maximum lock size to be MAX_LOCK32_SIZE for all 32-bit applications irrespective of whether 32-bit or 64-bit fcntl(2) interface is used. Resolution: The check for 32-bit application is performed only when 32-bit fcntl(2) interfaces are used. This check is removed from the common code for 32-bit and 64-bit fcntl(2) interfaces. PHKL_30146: ( SR:8606337213 CR:JAGae98239 ) Panic happens due to the usage of a NULL pointer in fcntl(). Resolution: Avoided accessing NULL pointer before it is checked for validity.
