Category Tags: defect_repair general_release critical halts_system Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHCO_29748 Symptoms: PHCO_29748: ( SR:8606326654 CR:JAGae88931 ) sh-posix(1) sometimes loops infinitely when read from terminal fails due to EIO, causing the session to hang. Defect Description: PHCO_29748: ( SR:8606326654 CR:JAGae88931 ) sh-posix(1) loops indefinitely and hence consumes CPU if : 1. The read from terminal results in an EIO error. 2. The last signal processed by the shell is SIGWINCH. The problem is known to be occurring under telnet sessions and cannot be easily reproduced. Root Cause : One of the variables used to indicate the occurrence of SIGWINCH was not reset. This caused sh-posix(1) to assume that, it failed to read from the terminal due to SIGWINCH. However, the actual reason for failure was EIO. Moreover, the condition under which, the shell should continue to read from the terminal was inadequate. Resolution: Now the variable used to indicate the arrival of SIGWINCH is reset once it is processed. Also, the condition under which, the shell should continue to read from the terminal has been modified.
