Patch Name: PHCO_28246 Patch Description: s700_800 11.00 script(1) cumulative patch Creation Date: 03/01/09 Post Date: 03/01/29 Hardware Platforms - OS Releases: s700: 11.00 s800: 11.00 Products: N/A Filesets: OS-Core.CMDS-AUX,fr=B.11.00,fa=HP-UX_B.11.00_32/64,v=HP Automatic Reboot?: No Status: General Release Critical: Yes PHCO_28246: HANG Category Tags: defect_repair general_release critical halts_system Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHCO_28246 Symptoms: PHCO_28246: script(1) hangs when interrupted immediately upon execution. PHCO_24694: When a large chunk of data is pasted in a script session, script is giving an error "tty write error". Also, there is data loss in its log file. Defect Description: PHCO_28246: script(1) hangs, when SIGINT or SIGQUIT is sent immediately, after it is invoked at command prompt. Steps to reproduce the problem are as follows: 1. invoke script $ script 2. send SIGINT (^C) immediately. The time gap between step 1 and step 2 is very small. So, this is very difficult to reproduce. Resolution: The signal handling for interrupt is corrected. The signals are queued up before script(1) execs a shell. PHCO_24694: When a large chunk of data is pasted on a script session, script is giving an error "tty write error". This was because, script(1) was trying to write data to file descriptors, which are not ready for write. Also there is some data loss, because there is no input flow control. Steps to reproduce the problem are as follows: 1. On a fresh terminal, start script. 2. cat > cat.out 2>cat.err 3. Type a buffer of at least 110x50 characters repeatedly. 4. Make sure that there is no "tty write error" 5. Exit from script by ^D^D and check whether the data present in cat.out is same as the one pasted. Resolution: Now, script(1) is made to use select(2) to check whether the file descriptors are ready for write or not, and then write the data. Also, an environmental variable SCRIPT_USE_IXOFF has been added, by setting this environmental variable before running the script, the input flow control can be enabled.
