Patch Name: PHCO_21242 Patch Description: s700_800 11.00 vxdump(1M) cumulative patch Creation Date: 00/03/08 Post Date: 00/04/12 Hardware Platforms - OS Releases: s700: 11.00 s800: 11.00 Products: N/A Filesets: JournalFS.VXFS-BASE-RUN,fr=B.11.00,fa=HP-UX_B.11.00_32/64,v=HP Automatic Reboot?: No Status: General Release Critical: No (superseded patches were critical) PHCO_14244: CORRUPTION Category Tags: defect_repair enhancement general_release critical corruption Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHCO_21242 Symptoms: PHCO_21242: The vxdump command generically fails with a vxdump: SIGSEGV: ABORTING! Memory fault(coredump) error message. Spurious "inode bmap failure inode xxx offset xxx" messages may proceed failure. This problem may occur on large filesystems which contain sparse files that have gone into multiple indirections. One of the levels of indirection must contain more than one entry for this problem to occur. PHCO_18466: Enchancement to allow for multiple versions of VxFS on 11.00. PHCO_14244: A vxdump error will cause the subsequent vxrestore to return "Checksum errors". Defect Description: PHCO_21242: Vxdump was incorrectly handling sparse files that have gone into multiple indirections. One of the levels of indirection must contain more than one entry for this problem to occur. The code attempts to track the offset of the next indirect extent in intermediate levels such that a hole at the end of an indirect can be trimmed properly. It is here that the offset is tracked incorrectly. Resolution: The code now correctly identifies an invalid next offset as one whose value is less that that of the requested offset. Subsequent action is now taken to reset the next offset variable. PHCO_18466: Multiple versions of VxFS may co-exist (be installed) however only one VxFS version may be configured into the kernel. Additionally, each VxFS version has its own set of commands. Therefore, it is necessary to identify which version of "vxfs" is currently running and then to subsequently run the appropriate command version. The HP 11.00 VxFS vxdump command will now act as a "wrapper" - deciding which VxFS version of vxdump to execute. To allow for multiple VxFS versions the following patches are required: PHCO_19491 libc PHCO_18462 diskusg_vxfs PHCO_18463 fscat PHCO_18464 getext PHCO_18465 setext PHCO_18467 vxrestore PHCO_18468 vxupgrade PHCO_18470 df PHCO_18471 fstyp PHCO_18472 fs_wrapper PHCO_18473 mount_wrapper PHCO_19673 fsck_hfs PHCO_19623 mount_hfs PHCO_19624 mount_cdfs PHCO_19631 lvchange PHCO_19656 mkboot Please note that PHCO_18466 can be used without the above patch dependencies if multiple VxFS version support is not required. Resolution: Implement mechanism to allow vxdump to identify which version of VxFS is currently configured in the kernel and then to subsequently run the appropriate version of vxdump. PHCO_14244: An incorrect conversion of disk block to file system block will result in vxdump generating a corrupt dump image. The error will surface during the vxrestore of this corrupted dump image. Vxrestore will generate checksum errors.
