Patch Name: PHCO_13812 Patch Description: s700_800 11.00 fixes dump(1M) handling of active files Creation Date: 98/02/03 Post Date: 98/02/05 Hardware Platforms - OS Releases: s700: 11.00 s800: 11.00 Products: N/A Filesets: OS-Core.SYS-ADMIN,fr=B.11.00,fa=HP-UX_B.11.00_32/64,v=HP Automatic Reboot?: No Status: General Release Critical: No Category Tags: defect_repair general_release Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHCO_13812 Symptoms: PHCO_13812: 1. dump does not actually backup files that are been modified between the beginning of a dump session and the time dump reaches that file. 2. dump's date message at the end of a dump session is misleading, printing the dump date rather than the ending date of the dump session. 3. dump has a misleading "tape rewinding" message at the end of each session, which may not apply in the case of non-rewinding tape devices. Defect Description: PHCO_13812: 1. dump had code which explicitly excluded files that were modified since the beginning of the dump session. This prevented all such files from being backed up -- even if the changes to those files were complete by the time dump reached them. 2. dump's message at the end of the dump was intended to show the "dump date", the date from which dump bases its backup decisions. The wording of this message was somewhat misleading. 3. dump's "tape rewinding" message was printed regardless of the type of tape device used, and would even display when the tape was not rewinding (e.g. in the case of a non-rewinding tape device file).
